Employment Security Notices provided to UFCW from St. Boniface
This week, the Union received an Employment Security Notice from St Boniface Hospital. This notice, which is attached for your records and review is for the following programs and services at the hospital:
- Housekeeping Attendants – Rotation changes & reduction
- Housekeeping Porters – Rotation changes and reduction
- Housekeeping USW – Rotation changes and reduction
- Health Care Aides – PARR – reduction
- Data Entry Clerk – Rehab Services – Reduction
- Receptionist 2 – Rehab Services – Reduction
This notice does not go into detail about the changes and is a requirement under the Collective Agreement. Under Article 18, the hospital must serve notice to the Union at least 120 days in advance of implementing these changes. We were served yesterday with an implementation date no sooner than August 6, 2019.
UFCW also received notice on February 28, 2019, with regards to the ceasing of operations of the Family Medical Centre at the end of June this year, along with a reduction of a transcriptionists in Health Records. This notice is also enclosed for your records and review.
Now that we have received notice, we will be meeting with the hospital to begin the Labour Adjustment Strategy Process and Bumping office protocol. We have our first meeting scheduled for next week. As we have done in the past, we will provide each of you with all of the information as soon as it is finalized. These processes are negotiated in accordance with the Collective Agreement. We still do not have all the specifics and do not have all the answers, but we will ensure that you are all up to date on all changes affecting members of UFCW. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. As soon as we do receive any specifics we will work with each of the affected individuals to address all of their questions and concerns and help them navigate this difficult process.
As we did in the last round of bumping, we will begin to document any questions that are being asked by the members to our Reps and if we don’t have the answer right now, will bring them to our meetings with the hospital to get answers for all of you as quickly as possible. Frequently asked questions documents will also be made up and emailed/mailed out to all of you.
