Election dates for health care workers finally announced
This afternoon the commissioner has finally announced the official dates for the union representation votes. Healthcare members across the province will vote for the union that will represent them going forward.
This government has spent the last few years disrupting the lives of frontline healthcare workers and Manitobans with the many and varied deep cuts to healthcare.
While these votes do nothing to improve health care in Manitoba, we do look forward to them being over so that workers have one less uncertainty hanging over their heads during these extremely stressful times.
UFCW has always been and will continue to be your voice at work in Manitoba, we always ensure our focus has been on better pay and better benefits for our members.
UFCW can be the union that leads all health care members against a government whose main focus is only the bottom line and clearly has no intention for health care workers to be compensated appropriately for the stressful and challenging work they do every day.
President of UFCW Local 832
Details of the announcement from the Commissioner
The Voting Period will run from August 8 - August 22, 2019.
(12:00 noon on August 8 until 12:00 noon on August 22, 2019)
How do I vote?
Members will be able to vote 24 hours a day, online or by touchtone telephone in English or in French.
The consulting group running the votes will provide each member eligible to vote with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access the voting system along with detailed voting instructions. You should receive this by mail to your home addresses between July 24 and August 6, 2019.
It's important that both the union and the hospital have your correct up-to-date mailing address.
There will be a four-week campaign period from July 11 to August 7, 2019, leading up to the Voting Period.
This is not a typical campaign as you would know it. Unions will be given scheduled times that they will be allowed to be present in the various workplaces. Booths will be set up, and members will have the opportunity to get information from the unions that they have the choice to vote for.
The scheduled times for each union will be posted in the workplace and on the commissioner's website at www.bill29commissioner.com.
We will be posting our schedules on our own website at www.wearethefrontline.ca
In addition to the booths in the workplaces, there will be a Direct-Mail-Out package delivered to each members home address between July 9 and July 19, 2019. In this mail-out, workers will receive a letter from the commissioner and information from the participating unions.
We will keep you up to date with more information as we receive it. Please check regularly at both www.wearethefrontline.ca and www.bill29commissioner.com
